Kokan, Rain and Me...

Rain and Konkan have an inseparable relationship in my mind. Since I am from Ratnagiri, rain has become an integral part of my life. I remember when I was little we used to go to the village every year for summer vacation, and it started raining in June. So what fun, both seasons used to meet in Konkan. Soaking in the rain, my grandfather and uncle used to take a pair of oxen to the field for plowing and plowing, so what a fun way to riot in the rain.

Every day till the season of mangoes, chanterelles and rattans continues, "Don't come for four days, Baba, let so many mangoes be harvested ... then come". But once the mango season is over, it is eagerly awaited. He would have prepared this by gathering clouds in the sky for eight or fifteen days. One day in the evening or at night, the arrival of the bell to the sound of the trumpet is the desire of the guests. No matter how much preparation is done, the first rain will blow the wires because even if the roofs of the houses are shaken every year, the water would leak somewhere. Then the leak is lifted and the leak is removed. The mandapa at the back door and in the barn is immediately removed so as not to spoil the Zhapa Kujun. When the tent was removed, the huts began to look very open. Games like children's cricket etc. are more colorful as there are no obstacles in the tent. But it is only for a few days because once it rains, it starts continuously for eight days in Konkan. Then you can't even sit for five minutes except to play in the barn.

With the arrival of rains, paddy farming begins. This work has to be done in heavy rains. We have some land on slopes so paddy is cultivated there at different levels (of steps). They look very beautiful on the farm. Planting requires a lot of rain and mud. The children of the house go out to have fun and roll in the mud. Some of our wickets are very fun. They deliberately roll the children in the mud and so on. That's what the kids wanted. (Smile) The women of the house go to the field to give tea, biscuits, vadapav etc. Knee-deep muddy water below, torrential rain from above, frozen air, and a cup of red tea in hand!

In the rainy season, the cattle get wet fodder, but on this day, the cattle are kept on their backs (cowherds) throughout the day so that the cattle do not enter their fields and cause damage. Krishna and his peers are remembered when four or five rakhnas are having fun together, but at the same time the thought of why these children do not go to school does not go unanswered. Cattle grazing in the diamond fields on the ridge look very greedy. But on both sides of the road to Sadya, there is grass up to your waist. If it is raining, it is scary to go there.

Another sensational event in the rainy season is the flood that is coming to Vhala (Vahala) behind our house. If it rains heavily for three or four hours, it will start to overflow. The water has tremendous speed and turbulence. They go to Vala with umbrellas and other things to see the water which is colored like tea. Sometimes the water was flowing from Sakwa, but the Ikad congregation could not go there. For a while, everything comes to a standstill. If there is a big hurricane, the water will sometimes seep into our Agra. The wells in Konkan are very deep, but when the wind blows, the water comes up so much that it can be removed without any relief. It is raining in Konkan. .. But when the haor comes and goes, the whale becomes very clean, neat and smooth.

In the rainy season, MESB often turns off the lights so that accidents do not happen due to storms. Due to the cloudy weather, there is very little light in the house during the day, especially in the toilet and in the temple. At such times, Niranjan is kept in the temple all day long. His slow, calm and smooth light brings a kind of satisfaction to the mind. I sincerely thank the power board for turning off the lights. Anyway.

Although the housewives do mango, chanterelles and other summer work, there are many festivals from Vatsavitri to Gauriganapati in the rainy season. On the day of Nagpanchami, Varula in Agra is worshiped with devotion. As Nagoba destroys the rats that destroy the crop. We celebrate Mangala Gaur, Hartalika, Shravani Monday, Saturday loudly. Therefore, the atmosphere in the house is full of excitement.

Congregations in Konkan usually go on summer days. But in the rainy season, Konkan is a paradise. I am always in Konkan with my mind in the rainy season and experience all this. This writing phenomenon to get you involved in this experience ......
